Immaculata's Education Division offers a major in education that is currently aligned with Pennsylvania requirements in Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved PreK-4, 4-8, PreK-4/special education, and PreK-8 certifications.
At the secondary level (K-12 or 7-12), students must complete a major in the specific content area of certification along with the required education courses. Field experiences are provided in preschools, elementary, middle, and high schools, and special education and urban settings. A culminating, full-time student teaching experience is guided by University staff in cooperation with local school personnel.
*Important notice from PDE regarding certifications: early childhood (N-3), elementary (K-6), and special education (N-12) program closures: As a reminder, please be advised that Chapter 49 specifically prohibits PDE from certifying candidates for the N-3 (early childhood), K-6 (elementary), and special education (N-12) certifications beginning on September 1, 2013.
A special application process is required of all students interested in teacher certification. Students make application in the second semester of sophomore year.
